We only use beans where we know that the farmers have been paid fairly for their work growing the fruit. Our importers have direct, personal relationships with the farmers and fermentaries.
Cacao is a fruit and just like coffee or wine, different varieties and terroirs produce different flavour. In our pure bars as well as our inclusion bars, we work to highlight these unique flavours.
We are passionate about our craft. We roast, grind, temper, mold and wrap the bars in small batches, taking care in each step. From the farmers' hands to the chocolate maker's to yours, there is heart in each step.
The beautiful paper wrapped around our chocolate is handmade Japanese chiyogami. "Chiyogami" means 1,000 generation paper, a term used to describe the repeating patterns. In addition to reflection the founder's heritage, we feel the chiyogami makes the chocolate beautiful enough to gift without additional wrapping.
A bilingual pun! Kokoro in Japanese means "heart" or "spirit". In Japanese, you can say someone has good "kokoro" to say they have good spirit, intentions, mind & heart. We hope that's how you see our chocolate, our maker and our business. Cocoaro is chocolate with good heart.
Chcolate can also be a beautiful ingredient. We use our chocolate to make some confections. Some of these may be seasonal or limited edition based on the ingredients. As with the bars, we still focus on the flavour and good ingredients, making pairings that enhance all the ingredients.
These are some of the origins and bars we have made. Check out our stockists, market stalls or contact us directly to see current offerings.
Cocoaro is still available in the Cariboo! Find us at:
We do not currently stock Cocoaro in any shops in the lower mainland. Find us at markets or contact us using the form below.
Cocoaro Craft Chocolate can be found at
Cocoaro Craft Chocolate began in Wells, BC and was created by independent entrepreneur, Margaret Inoue. The small town and supportive local food and business community in the Cariboo helped to incubate and grow Cocoaro from an idea to a business. In 2018, Cocoaro moved to the lower mainland of BC as a result of family priorities. We have found a welcome food community and hope to grow the success of the chocolate and continue to educate people on fine craft chocolate.
Cocoaro Craft Chocolate grew out of Margaret’s passion for food, flavour, social justice and, well, chocolate. It was the intersection where she felt she could make a difference through the business she developed. She is continually learning and working on her craft. The business and bars also reflect her Japanese heritage, including the gifting aspect of the culture. She hopes you not only enjoy them, but you also share them, which is why we make the bars beautiful on the outside and delicious on the inside.
